Our Process

Many people have sighed for the ‘good old days’ and regretted the ‘passing of the horse,’ but today, when only those who like horses own them, it is a far better time for horses.

Making rocking horses is one of my biggest passions in life and many hours of work go into the final result. I have designed and created every pattern for my horses and although it sounds quite simple, it’s not as easy as it sounds.

Because of my love for horses and my passion for woodwork, I kind of know how they can both go together. I get an idea in my head of what I want my horses to look like, I research the breed I am trying to emulate before I sit down on the carpet with some drafting paper and start the process.

It’s about making this horse break down into pieces so they can be put back together in a blocked 3D fashion. Once this is done it’s on to the drawing them out on the timber, cutting them out on the band-saw.

And many hours later once the glue has dried I simply carve away all the bits that are not horsey.

I have made custom pieces but they are very time consuming and therefore the pricing has to indicate some of the hours of planning as well as the finished horse.

Please feel confident in knowing I only use kiln dried sustainable plantation grown timber of the highest quality and only use water based paints in the painting process.
